A CLEARER READ
Let the city set your pace.
Tbilisi works best when you give it a little slack. The historic centre is compact, but the hills, courtyards and long lunches make a fixed checklist feel unnecessarily rushed.
A first two days
Start in the Old Town before the streets warm up. Walk from Abanotubani toward Metekhi, cross the river for the cable-car view, then leave an afternoon for Sololaki’s balconies and independent cafés. On day two, use Rustaveli Avenue and the museums as an indoor-weather option before dinner in Chugureti.
Where to base yourself
Old Town is convenient for a short first visit, though its lanes and nightlife can be noisy. Sololaki gives you historic architecture and a calmer walk to the centre. Chugureti is a useful choice for cafés and a more residential feel. Check the slope, stairs and air-conditioning details before booking.
Getting around
The metro and city buses are useful for longer hops; walking is usually fastest inside the central districts. Save an offline map and allow extra time for hills, uneven paving and traffic around the river.
Practical checklist
- Allow 2–4 days before moving east.
- Carry a light layer: evenings can cool quickly in spring and autumn.
- Verify museum hours and transport fares on official pages before leaving.
