Tbilisi
A layered city of sulphur baths, wine bars and cliffside views. Spend two days in the old centre, then use the capital as your base for the east.

Sighnaghi
Sighnaghi is compact enough to explore on foot and scenic enough to reward a night. Arrive for the valley views, stay for the lanes, walls and nearby wine estates.
High Caucasus air
Kazbegi
Stepantsminda, still widely called Kazbegi, is the practical base for Gergeti Trinity Church and the Georgian Military Highway. Give the mountains time to change the plan.

Gergeti Trinity Church
A working Orthodox church on a high ridge. Walk from Stepantsminda for the gradual reveal, or take a local 4x4 when weather, daylight or mobility make the trail a poor fit.
